Vertical woods, the Best Tall Building Worldwide: an international award goes to an italian project. The last 13th November The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) during the award ceremony assigned to “Vertical woods” the first place as the best building in Europe and worldwide 2015, a project conceived by Studio Boeri, now Stefano Boeri Architects (Stefano Boeri, Gianandrea Barreca, Giovanni La Varra), in cooperation with the construction business entrepreneur Manfredi Catella (Hines Italia SGR S.p.A.).

The residential construction, located in the area of Giardini di Porta Nuova in Milan, represents one of the most challenging urban recovery and reforestation projects of Milan in latest time. In the project it has been used an architectural concept which replaces the traditional covering materials with vegetation covers that create a different microclimate aimed to enhance the sustainability of the building in its complex. This type of design is connected to a type of urban ecosystem which aims to improve an harmonious interaction among inhabitants, flora and fauna and the residential buildings. Certainly it represents a perfect example of balance between urbanization and environmental sustainability.

The competition for the Best Tall Building Worldwide was very hard, among the finalist projects of the four regions of the world there were: One World Trade Center, New York City, USA (Best Tall Building Americas); CapitaGreen, Singapore (Best Tall Building Asia & Australasia); Burj Mohammed Bin Rashid Tower, Abu Dhabi, UAE (Best Tall Building East&Africa).

It can be surely said that this important recognition is a source of pride not only for the authors but also for our country.
